foundation: Community Grant Recipients

STRONG BONDS

 

A total of $274,638.40 in Community Grants (formerly known as Insight/Foresight Grants) have been awarded by the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation to date. In 2016 awards have been given to the following organizations:

 

URBAN ASSEMBLY BRONX ACADEMY OF LETTERS  RICHARD WRIGHT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL FOR JOURNALISM AND MEDIA ARTS 

Bronx, NY

This grant supports an idea, surrounding Shakespeare's Macbeth and will use grant funds to provide students the opportunity to learn using a graphic novel as well as original version providing an understanding of literacy, language and culture they can use to then present in the form of visual arts.  

Washington, DC

This grant will allow the reading program to include an additional 30 student's grade 8-12.

INWOOD ACADEMY FOR LEADERSHIP COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF THE NATION'S CAPITAL

Brooklyn, NY

This grant will allow the purchase of Volkswagen Beetle engine for a hands on learning approach to start the 2016-2017 school year where low income students use "learning by doing" method to re-build the 1963 VW to gain applicable skills to lead them into the job market.  

Washington, DC

This grant will support the increase in student engagement at Martin Luther King Elementary School as they move to an extended school day. Grant funds will allow for enrichment activities to offer during intercession sessions including yoga, robotics, cooking, sewing, athletics and painting.

 
MARTIN VAN BUREN HIGH SCHOOL  

Queens, NY

This Community Grant will support the purchase of a copy machine for the school library to support 1,500 low income students

Staten Island, NY

The grant will provide students with 20-30 7 inch kindle fire tables, covers and Crayola model magic to access reading level book by Raz Kids to implement a yearlong sea life and ocean theme.

 
 THE BRONX CHARTER SCHOOL FOR BETTER LEARNING  

Bronx, NY

This grant will provide students who are involved in the Robotics Club more STEM resources, team t-shirts and concepts in order to compete in the Lego League Competition at a higher level.

 
CHILDREN'S FRIENDS AND SERVICE  

Providence, RI

The grant will allow teachers to implement a learning activity year round on healthy eating habits and choices with the creation of three raised beds for gardening in the schools playground. This program will serve over 90 students and encourages critical thinking in math, science and social studies.

 
EDWARDS MIDDLE SCHOOL  

Charlestown, MA

Grant funds will support the purchase of Lexia Reading

 
ROUND TABLE  

Boston, MA

The grant will support the purchase of windows based computer's for an after-school tutoring program for teens.   

 
ROCA, INC.  

Chelsea, MA

The grant will support efforts to build out the alternative education department, specifically with the purchase of books and smart board learning tools to assist the 17-24 year old at risk male population.

 
THE JAMES D. ST. CLAIR COURT PUBLIC EDUCATION PROJECT, DISCOVERING JUSTICE  

Roxbury, MA

The grant will support the implement the second edition Children Discovering Justice literacy and social studies curriculum to the entire second grade at the Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School in the Roxbury.

 
TRINITY ACADEMY  

Hartford, CT

The grant will provide low income students a two week summer program with transportation and field trips.  

 
CAPITOL REGION EDUCATIONAL COUNCIL  

Hartford, CT

The grant will support the purchase of musical instruments in order to begin a band program.  

 
THURGOOD MARSHALL ACADEMY PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL  

Washington, DC

The grant will support the purchase of ten Chromebook computers, laptops, video camera and carrying cases for the Homework Help Tutoring program and Mock Trial Team.
